Blood Tests

Detects infections that spread through the bloodstream and may not be present at local infection sites.

Detects:

•HIV – antibody/antigen testing
•Syphilis – all stages of infection
•Hepatitis B & C – liver infections

Best For:

Anyone sexually active, IV drug users, those with multiple partners, or anyone with unknown exposure history.

Urine Tests

Non-invasive sample collection. Ideal for detecting urogenital bacterial infections in both men and women.

Detects:

•Chlamydia – most common bacterial STI
•Gonorrhoea – urogenital infections
•Mycoplasma/Ureaplasma – bacterial infections

Best For:

Men (primary option), women who prefer non-invasive testing, those with urinary symptoms.

Swab Tests (PCR)

Most accurate for site-specific detection. Can test vaginal, cervical, throat, or rectal sites.

Detects:

•All bacterial STIs – at the infection site
•Herpes (HSV) – if lesions present
•BV, Candida, Trichomonas – vaginal swabs

Best For:

Women (most accurate), anyone with symptoms at specific sites, oral/anal exposure testing.
