What Your STI Certificate Includes

Whether you call it an STI certificate, STD certificate, sexual health certificate or STI clearance certificate, organisations that ask for one generally want the same things: proof of who was tested, what they were tested for, when, by whom, and the results. Our certificate is designed to answer all five clearly.

Clinic letterhead

Issued on official STI Clinic London letterhead with clinic address and contact details.

Signed by an NMC-registered clinician

Signed and dated by the registered nurse who oversaw your testing, with their NMC PIN.

CQC-registered provider

Our clinics are registered with the Care Quality Commission — the certificate carries our registration number.

Every test listed

Each infection tested, the sample type, the laboratory method and your result, item by item.

Dated

Shows the sample collection date and the date results were issued — what most visa and employer checks ask for.

UKAS-accredited lab results

Results come from UKAS-accredited partner laboratories and the certificate references the laboratory report.

Please note: our certificates are signed by an NMC-registered nurse, not a GMC-registered doctor. Most visa, employer and sporting bodies accept this, but acceptance is always decided by the requesting organisation. If they specifically require a doctor's signature or particular wording, please confirm with them before booking.

Who Needs an STI Certificate?

Patients ask us for a certified STI test for many reasons. The most common:

Visa & immigration

Some countries request evidence of an HIV test or a sexual health screen as part of a visa, residency or work-permit application. Check the exact tests your embassy or sponsor requires before booking — we can test to that list.

Work abroad & offshore

Employers in shipping, oil & gas, aviation, hospitality and overseas contracts often ask for a dated STI or HIV certificate before deployment.

Sport & performance

Combat sports, adult-industry work and some competitive licences require regular, documented blood-borne virus screening (HIV, Hepatitis B and C).

New partner peace of mind

A dated certificate is a clear, private way to share your status with a new partner without handing over your full medical record.

Study, placements & au pair work

Universities, medical placements and host families sometimes ask for evidence of screening before you start.

Personal records

Keep a formal, signed record of a negative screen for your own files — useful if you are ever asked to show one at short notice.

Tests & Packages to Book With a Certificate

A certificate can be added to any test or package we offer. These three cover the combinations most often requested for visas, work and sport. The certificate is a £20 add-on; the test prices below are the standard clinic prices.

How to Get Your Certificate

  1. Check what's required. If a visa, employer or licensing body is asking, confirm exactly which infections they want tested and whether a nurse-signed certificate is acceptable.
  2. Book online. Use the Book + Certificate button — your appointment is logged as “STI Testing + Certificate” so the clinic knows in advance. Nothing is charged online.
  3. Bring photo ID. Passport or driving licence, so the certificate is issued in your full legal name.
  4. Attend either clinic. Samples are collected in around 20 minutes at South Kensington (7 days) or the City / St Paul's (Mon–Fri).
  5. Receive results and certificate. Once all results are back, your signed certificate is emailed to you securely as a PDF. Printed copies are available on request.

STI Certificate FAQs

What is an STI certificate?+

An STI certificate (sometimes called an STD certificate, sexual health certificate or STI clearance certificate) is a formal document confirming which sexually transmitted infections you were tested for, when the samples were taken, and the results. Ours is issued on clinic letterhead and signed by an NMC-registered clinician.

Who signs the certificate — is it a doctor?+

Our certificates are signed by an NMC-registered nurse with their registration (PIN) number, under our CQC-registered service. We do not issue doctor-signed certificates. If your embassy, employer or licensing body specifically requires a GMC-registered doctor's signature, please check with them before booking, as a nurse-signed certificate may not be accepted.

Is the certificate included in the test price?+

The certificate is an optional add-on for £20 on top of your chosen test or package. Let us know you need one when you book or at your appointment. Nothing is charged online — you pay at the clinic.

How quickly will I receive my certificate?+

Most results are available from 1 working day, depending on the tests chosen. Your certificate is prepared once all results are back and is sent to you by secure email as a PDF. Printed copies can be collected from the clinic on request.

Which tests should I book for a visa or work certificate?+

Requirements vary by country and employer. Many ask only for HIV; others ask for HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis B and C; some request a full screen including Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea. Our Silver and Platinum packages cover the most commonly requested combinations, or you can book individual tests. If you have a form or list from the requesting body, bring it with you and we will test to that list.

Do I need an HIV certificate specifically?+

If you only need an HIV certificate, you can book our individual HIV 1 & 2 / p24 antigen blood test and request a certificate. This is a 4th-generation test and the certificate will state the test type and method.

Will the certificate be accepted abroad?+

Our certificates are issued by a CQC-registered UK clinic, signed by an NMC-registered clinician, with UKAS-accredited laboratory results — a standard that is widely accepted. However, acceptance is decided by the receiving organisation, so we cannot guarantee that any particular embassy or employer will accept it. If you need specific wording, tests, or a doctor's signature, confirm this with them first.

Can the certificate be in my passport name?+

Yes. Please bring photo ID (passport or driving licence) to your appointment so we can issue the certificate in your full legal name exactly as it appears on your ID.

What if a result is positive?+

If any result is positive, a clinician will contact you to explain what it means and arrange appropriate follow-up. The certificate will accurately reflect all results — we cannot omit or alter a result. Most people who test do receive an all-clear certificate.

Is the certificate confidential?+

Yes. The certificate is issued to you only. We do not share it, or your results, with your GP, employer or anyone else without your consent, except in the rare circumstances where disclosure is required by law.
